The Migration Department held training for asylum specialists
On Thursday, a two-day training session for migration specialists working with asylum seekers concluded at the central office of the Migration Department in Vilnius.
The event, organized by the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA), provided professional development for more than two dozen Migration Department employees.
During the training, participants received various recommendations to enhance their ability to conduct effective and professional interviews with asylum seekers.
Key aspects of interview procedures were reviewed, emphasizing the importance of structuring interviews, preparing thoroughly, adhering to ethical and professional standards, ensuring fundamental rights, and objectively evaluating information and evidence. Special attention was given to the nuances of interviewing vulnerable individuals.
Participants were provided with practical advice on how to properly initiate and conduct interviews to ensure they are comprehensive, respectful, and compliant with legal requirements. These elements are crucial for analyzing information holistically and making fair asylum decisions.
Such training aims to improve the skills of asylum and reception officers and staff in European Union member states and associated partner countries. It is part of the EUAA’s training program designed to assist national institutions in applying EU asylum law and enhancing the quality of asylum procedure implementation.
