The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Visited the Migration Department

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Lithuania, Jack Twiss Quarles van Ufford, paid an introductory visit to the Migration Department.

During the meeting with Director Indrė Gasperė, key actions by the Migration Department and other state institutions were discussed as the country prepares to implement the requirements of the European Union's Migration and Asylum Pact.

The guest was informed about the training needs of migration specialists, planned amendments to national legislation, updates to Lithuania's migration information system MIGRIS, and opportunities for its further development.

The Ambassador also expressed interest in the situation of Ukrainian war refugees who fled to Lithuania due to Russia's aggression, the most relevant statistical indicators, and the status of such foreigners in our country.

At the beginning of 2023, digital temporary residence permits began to be issued to Ukrainian war refugees benefiting from the temporary protection mechanism—this proven solution is presented to delegations and experts from various countries as an example of good Lithuanian practice in managing migration processes and a model for the digitization of services.

I. Gasperė also presented to Ambassador J. T. Q. van Ufford the overall migration situation in the country, providing the latest statistical data on the number of foreigners legally residing in Lithuania, the reasons for their arrival, the established quota for citizens of foreign countries invited to work in our country, and decisions made regarding the issuance and replacement of residence permits for foreigners.
