I. Gasperė appointed as Director of the Migration Department
The Migration Department under the Ministry of the Interior has a new director – Indrė Gasperė, who won an open competition, has been appointed to the position. By order of the Minister of the Interior Vladislavas Kondratovičius, I. Gasperė will assume the duties of the department's director starting from 8th of January.
According to the Minister of the Interior, ambitious goals are set for the Migration Department and its director – to ensure effective management of migration processes, high quality of services, resilience of the institution's operations in crisis situations, and consistent implementation of the state's migration policy.
"The Migration Department today operates in an extremely complex and dynamic environment. The new director will play an important role in strengthening the efficiency of this institution and public trust in migration processes," says Minister of the Interior V. Kondratovičius.
I. Gasperė is a long-time employee of the Ministry of the Interior and a qualified lawyer with more than 20 years of experience in public service. She has actively contributed to resolving various complex issues related to migration, the legal status of foreigners, inter-institutional cooperation, and process management aspects, and has also temporarily led state institutions. Since 2022, she has been appointed as a member of the board of AB "Regitra".
The opportunity to contribute to the implementation of the state's migration policy, strengthen the institution's resilience in crisis situations, reduce bureaucracy, and introduce effective, people-oriented solutions motivated her to apply for the position of director of the Migration Department.
"The Migration Department plays an important role in the life of the state, so my goal is to ensure smooth and high-quality service provision, strengthen employee competencies, modernize processes, and develop constructive dialogue with social partners and international institutions. I will strive for the department to value each employee's contribution and become an attractive employer for those seeking career opportunities, while providing services to clients and businesses efficiently and with high quality, in compliance with legal norms," says the director of the Migration Department, I. Gasperė.
During her term, the new director will have to ensure the smooth operation of the Migration Department and effective organization of the institution's activities. Some of the most important tasks include the implementation of the Migration Pact and the adoption of related legal acts, the development of the MIGRIS and electronic signature systems, the implementation of the E-Wallet project, shortening the processing times for citizenship applications, and improving employees' working conditions.
Cooperation with state institutions, municipalities, businesses, the foreign community, and educational institutions will also be expanded to ensure effective practical implementation of migration policy.
Nine candidates participated in the evaluation stage of the competition for the position of the head of the Migration Department. In total, 23 applications were received to participate in the competition. 19 candidates met the requirements and participated in the initial evaluation according to the competency assessment criteria chosen by the commission. Based on the results of the initial evaluation, 13 candidates were selected for evaluation by the commission.
The candidates were evaluated by a competition commission formed by order of the director of the Public Governance Agency, which included representatives from the Public Governance Agency and the Ministry of the Interior.
