Romanian Asylum Experts Visit the Migration Department

A delegation of asylum experts from Romania visited Lithuania from 25 to 27 July. The purpose of the visit: to learn about good practices in the management of reception centres for asylum seekers, the assistance provided to asylum seekers, and the standards of quality of reception of persons in need of international protection, including the proper identification of the needs of vulnerable persons, etc.

The delegation visited the Ministry of the Interior and the Migration Department on 25 July. Mr Lukas Algirdas Stankevičius, Chief Specialist of the Asylum Division of the Migration Department, told the guests about the difficulties the Migration Department has faced in dealing with the influx of migrants and presented the lessons learnt. Lucija Voišnis, Deputy Director of the Migration Department, and Rita Mikučionienė, Chancellor of the Migration Department, presented the activities of the Migration Department, the IT solutions used, and the services provided to clients. The Romanian delegation was particularly interested in Lithuania’s migration information system MIGRIS, its possibilities, and plans for its development.

On 26–27 July, the Romanian delegation will continue its visit to the Foreigners Registration Centre in Pabradė and the Refugee Reception Centre in Rukla.
