International Expert Group Meeting at the Migration Department
A two-day meeting of a group of international migration experts, organised by the Migration Department, concluded in Vilnius on Wednesday.
A total of 40 experts from Lithuania, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Romania, and Slovenia participated in the event both live and remotely.
Lucija Voišnis, Deputy Director of the Migration Department, welcomed the participants on the first day of the event. Chancellor Rita Mikučionienė presented the MIGRIS portal of the Lithuanian Migration Information System, its possibilities, and the electronic services provided to Lithuanian citizens and foreigners, such as booking a visit, ordering passports, ID cards, temporary or permanent residence permits etc to the guests. In addition, the most relevant statistical data on activities and the work of customer service units, customer flow management, etc.
The experts were also introduced to the internal MIGRIS environment, which is used by the staff of the Migration Department and other responsible Lithuanian institutions to perform their functions.
Guests from Germany and Denmark also presented their experiences and best practices, describing the progress in the digitalisation of migration services and the peculiarities of customer service in their countries.
On the same day, Tuesday, the delegation of passport experts visited the Vilnius Department of the Migration Department, where they got acquainted with the procedure of issuing documents and had the opportunity to observe the customer service process using the Migration Information System MIGRIS.
On Wednesday, the delegation of experts visited the Identity Documents Issuing Centre. The guests were briefed on the peculiarities, structure, and primary functions of this department of the internal affairs system.
During the meeting at the Migration Department, the foreign experts were introduced to the service launched at the beginning of 2023, where foreigners can apply for temporary residence permits in Lithuania at the offices of an external service provider in 34 countries. Guests from the Netherlands, Ireland, and the United Kingdom also gave presentations on digitising travel documents and improving the functioning of databases.
