Director of the Migration Department Ms Gudzinskaitė is the New Chairperson of the European Union Agency for Asylum Management Board
Evelina Gudzinskaitė, Director of the Migration Department, was elected as the new Chairperson of the Management Board of the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) at its meeting in Malta on Wednesday.
Ms Gudzinskaitė has been the Head of the Migration Department of Lithuania since 2015. She has served as Deputy Chairperson of the Management Board of the EUAA since her appointment in March of this year.
“I thank my colleagues for the trust they have placed in me. This is a high recognition of my personal experience and the Lithuanian administration’s ability to organise EU-wide decision-making reliably,” said the new Chairperson of the Management Board.
During the two-day session, the members of the Management Board discussed the strategy and priorities of the Agency, reviewed the situation of asylum in the EU and other countries, and discussed the monitoring mechanism for national asylum systems currently under preparation and other issues.
The EUAA was launched in January 2022, when the previous European Asylum Support Office was given additional powers.
The Agency is mandated to provide technical, expert, and operational assistance to Member States on various issues related to asylum procedures.
