Armenian delegation to be presented with the Migration Department's best practice in citizenship issues
On Tuesday, a delegation from the Armenian Migration and Citizenship Service, headed by the Deputy Director of the Migration and Citizenship Service, Mr. Mariam Gevorgyan, started a four-day familiarisation visit to Lithuania.
The visit is organised in the framework of a joint project between the European Union and partners in Lithuania and Latvia to support various Armenian institutions involved in law enforcement and security reforms.

On the first day of the visit, the Armenian delegation met with the Director of the Department, Evelina Gudzinskaite, at the Migration Department's central headquarters in Vilnius. The guests were briefly introduced to the structure of the institution, its main functions, the processes of issuing documents, and on this and the following days of the visit, the main focus will be on the citizenship procedures of the Republic of Lithuania.
The Armenian delegation will be briefed on the conditions of acquisition and loss of citizenship and the related legislation, and will be provided with information on the cases when persons are entitled to and acquire multiple citizenship.

The guests will also be introduced to the practical aspects of citizenship procedures: the submission of the application form and the necessary documents, the process of their verification, the collection and assessment of additional information, and cooperation with other Lithuanian institutions on citizenship issues.
During their stay, the guests will also visit the Migration Department's customer service units in Vilnius and Trakai, where they will be introduced to the practical mechanism of customer service in citizenship matters. The guests will have the opportunity to observe the procedures carried out by the Migration Department’s staff.
On Thursday, the delegation headed by Mr. Gevorgyan is scheduled to visit the Central State Archives of Lithuania, where the guests will get acquainted with its activities. It is from these archives that Migration Department specialists obtain information on the possession or loss of citizenship of persons who lived in Lithuania between the wars, the internal and foreign passports issued at that time, the persons' education at one or another educational institution, and their work activities.
The guests will conclude their stay with a review discussion summarising the results of their visit and will leave Lithuania on Friday.
The project "Support to Law Enforcement and Security Reforms in Armenia" aims to ensure that the newly established Armenian Ministry of the Interior operates in a transparent and efficient manner, successfully implements the police reform the country needs, modernises the management of the state border and migration flows, and that the public has confidence in the Ministry's policies.
The European Union is contributing €2 million towards this objective, while Lithuania's contribution of €222,2 thousand is coming from the Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid Fund.
